Calling all crafters! Simply Handmade Magazine wants YOU!

Any crafty girl worth her salt is familiar with Simply Handmade Magazine, yes? I thought so. Though the category is technically "magazine", a more apt description for each issue is "idea book". Advertising is kept to an absolute minimum, so most of the 132 pages (yes, 132!) is pure inspiration. That's where you come in. Think GREAT DESIGN. Think STYLISH, ladies and gentlemen!

We are now accepting submissions for the June/July 2011 issue and the deadline is 11:59PM MST on December 18th! Here are the seven categories we're looking for this time:

• Crafts - Fun crafts for boys, fun crafts for girls.
• Toys for Kids - Cuddly plushies, cute things crafted from wood, or anything else made by hand for kids of all ages to play with. Original designs only.
• On the Wall - Painted canvases, DIY frames, quilted wall art, shadowboxes, embroidered designs - anything and everything cool that you might hang on your wall. Original designs only.
• Die Cuts - Anything you've made using a die cut machine - shapes, letters, etc. - bonus points for cutting materials other than paper.
• Birthday - Birthday party decorations, special gifts, invitations, cards, thanks yous, etc.
• Framed - Fixed-up antique frames, framed pieces that you've made, decorated frames, original pieces in frames.
• The Boutique - Have you made something absolutely adorable, but it doesn't fit our current calls? Send it anyway, we're always happy to see all kinds of fabulous creations!

Be sure to include your contact information – name, address, phone number and email address – as well as a complete list of the supplies you used to make the item. For example:

If we choose your creation for publication in an upcoming issue, we’ll send you an email requesting that you mail it in for us to photograph. Our publications are reader-based, which means we are always publishing fresh new faces. So get creating and submit today!

New Job at Simply Handmade Magazine!

Guess what? I have a new job! I'm now the Creative Editor at Simply Handmade Magazine, which is published by Northridge Publishing- the same company who publishes Scrapbook Trends, Cards Magazine, Bead Trends and the brand spankin' new Cricut Magazine.

This opportunity was definitely an answer to prayer and happened rather out of the blue. I really needed a position which would enable me to work from home (more on that in the near future), so between the magazine and Stitchographie, I hope to stay busy filling my days with many creative things!

Functional + Stylish Handmade Diaper Bag by Audra Jo Handmade

 

Why do I love this? It's unique. It's not the cookie-cutter handmade diaper bag that we've seen so much of online. It's functional. And, tucked away inside, it has two straps fitted with d-rings enabling one to hang it on a stroller! Also, the inside fabric is pink with white polka-dots! (Can we ever get enough polka dots?) I have personally purchased from Audra Jo Handmade in the past and the service is wonderful!

Sign Language Love Print by Beauchamping

 

I've featured Beauchamping's prints once before and when I saw this simple, yet well-designed print, I had to share this one with you, too! Each print is actually a xylene transfer, which is like a screen print, but without the screen. Every single one is transferred by hand, inch by inch, and takes an hour to create!
